LUCKNOW, Oct. 24 -- Five suicides were reported in the city in the days following Diwali. The incidents occurred in different localities within a short span. In Sarojininagar, a labourer residing at a local factory was found dead in his room on October 22. Factory staff reported that he had locked his room and hanged himself from the ceiling fan. The police reached the scene, took the body down, and sent it to the nearby CHC for medical confirmation, where he was declared dead. His family was informed, and legal procedures were currently underway, stated police in a statement on Thursday. Another incident was reported in Dubagga on October 23, when a woman jumped in front of a moving train near Kakori Gate. Police said she had reportedly left home in the morning and was mentally unstable. Local villagers and family members gathered at the scene following the accident. The body was sent for post-mortem after on-site formalities, and investigations were under way, said police. Similarly, in Rajajipuram, a middle-aged man committed suicide by hanging himself from the railing of a staircase at his residence on October 22. Family members brought him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police have begun an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of his death, stated a press communique. In Banthra, an 11th-grade student was admitted to the hospital after attempting to take her own life on October 20 by hanging. She succumbed during treatment on October 22. Police completed the initial formalities and sent the body for post-mortem examination while investigations were ongoing. In Thakurganj, a property dealer shot himself at his flat in Panjatan Heights. Police recovered an illegal firearm from the scene, conducted forensic inspection, and sent the body for a post-mortem examination. His family members were present at the scene, and preliminary inquiry indicates the man acted alone, police officials stated in the police statement.
