Lucknow, Sept. 14 -- A thunderous applause greeted singer Usha Uthup, dressed in her trademark Kanjivaram saree, at the Sant Gadgeji Auditorium of UP Sangeet Natak Akademi on Saturday. She was here to be a part of the 162nd Foundation Day of Kalibari Ghasiyari Mandi. Settling in a chair in front of a microphone, she launched proceedings with her famous 'I believe in music, I believe in Love' in that deliciously rich timbre. Interacting with the audience, as she usually does during shows, the 77-year-old singer expressed her happiness at witnessing the progress in Lucknow. "When we landed at Lucknow airport I could not believe this was Lucknow airport. It has taken so much progress. It is beautiful. Lucknow has given me my fragrance and strength. All my music is Sugandhco and Lucknow's itra," she said. Her melodies - Skyfall in Saree, RD Burman's 'Tumo Koto Je Daro', Don - 2 famed 'Hai Ye Mahiya' left the audience mesmerised. "I am the original bad girl of Bollywood - the item girl, in saree and full blouse," she said, which elicited much laughter. It was followed by her beginning 'Haal Kaisa hai Janab ka' which she insisted the audience sing along, leaving the auditorium resonating with some excited singing and some gentle humming. She also rendered - 'Bulleya', 'Dum Maro Dum', 'Tum Kaha Main Kaha', 'Duniya mein Logon ko', 'Aa Dekhe Zara', 'Shaan se', 'Hari Om Hari', 'Tune Mari Entry', 'Darling', 'Senorita' and 'Ramba Ho'. Her punches on various topics in between the songs left the audience in peals of laughter. Deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak was the chief guest at the programme. "I have been visiting Kalibari since my graduation days. I used to visit the temple ahead of my examination. Whatever I am today is because of Goddess Kali at Kalibari," Pathak. President Kalibari Temple Trust Abhijeet Sarkar requested Pathak to help in the construction of Maa Kali Dwar near Shubham Cinema on which Pathak agreed and assured all possible help in the work....
