LUCKNOW, June 20 -- Two men from Sitapur district died in a road accident late in the night, near a petrol pump on the Lucknow-Kanpur highway, under Banthra police station limits, on Wednesday. A fast-moving pick-up van crashed into a dumper that was parked on the roadside near the Saroj Pipe Company petrol pump, said the police. The victims were identified as Pankaj Gupta, 24, son of late Pradeep Kumar, resident of Brahmani Tola, Biswan, Sitapur, and Deepu Gupta, 27, son of late Baburam, resident of Shankarganj, Biswan, Sitapur district. Both were seriously injured in the accident and were rushed to Community Health Centre(CHC) Sarojini Nagar, where doctors declared them dead. A third person, Ashok, sitting at the back of the pick-up van survived the accident without major injuries. The pick-up van's driver ran away after the accident and has not been found yet. "Legal procedures have been followed, and we are trying to identify the unknown vehicle and the driver involved," said Rana Rajesh Kumar Singh, station house officer (SHO), Banthra police station. Family members of the deceased reached the spot shortly after the incident. The police completed the necessary legal formalities in their presence and sent the bodies for a post-mortem examination. "Police are checking CCTV footage and looking for eyewitnesses. An FIR (first information report) has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing," Lucknow Police said in a press statement, on Thursday....
