PATNA, June 2 -- Weeks after Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief and Union minister Chirag Paswan expressed his desire to rejoin state politics, his brother in-law and party's MP from Jamui Arun Bharti on Sunday posted a message on X calling up on the former to contest the Assembly election from an unreserved seat. Bharti, also in-charge of party's affairs in Bihar, said the state executive panel had endorsed Paswan's wish to contest the Assembly elections. "Paswan always says that his politics is Bihar-centric and his vision 'Bihar First, Bihari First' is a resolution for a developed and self-reliant Bihar. This is possible only when he himself stays in Bihar and leads the organisation," added Bharti on X. In the post Bharti claimed people of Bihar wanted Chirag to play a bigger role in state politics.Party workers also felt he should contest not from a reserved seat, but from a general seat - so that the message went out that he was now ready to lead entire Bihar, not just one section. The LJP(RV) galvanised into action mode to pave the way for Paswan to contest the polls after he shared the dais with PM Modi at Bikramganj's public meeting in Rohtas on May 30. Party sources said the national executive was hurriedly convened at Bikramganj soon after the departure of Modi which unanimously passed a resolution, urging Paswan to contest state elections. Another senior party leader, however, said there were a lot of issues to be resolved in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar before letting Chirag Paswan take a plunge. ".. seat-sharing formula among the NDA constituents shall be finalised. As per our standing in Lok Sabha, we expect to contest from 30 seats under the alliance," said the leader, adding the LJP(RV) national president had recently met CM Nitish Kumar and dyCM Vijay Kumar Sinha in this regard. In an interview to a media channel, Paswan on Sunday said, "If the party wants, I am ready to contest." "There are too many slips between the cup and the lips for Chirag Paswan. JD (U) does not have a good image about him. It had lost many seats owing to the triangular fight triggered by LJP(RV), which chose to contest the 2020 state polls alone. Although it won only one seat, LJP(RV) finished 2nd on nine seats out of 137 it had contested and bagged a sizable number of votes to engineer defeat of the JD(U) contestants," said political analyst Ramashankar Arya....
