Kanpur, Nov. 22 -- In a breakthrough that closes one of the oldest pending murder manhunts in the city, the police have arrested a 70-year-old man who had been absconding for four decades. The accused, Prem Prakash alias Pappu, was 30 when he and his associates allegedly murdered a man in 1982 and were subsequently arrested. After spending two years in jail, he secured bail, but stopped appearing before the court in 1985. A non-bailable warrant was issued, and since then he had disappeared without a trace. ACP Kotwali and Pheelkhana police began a fresh probe by constituting a special team. Investigators finally traced Prakash to Gonda, where he had been living under the assumed identity of Prem Kumar and had severed all links with his native locality-Bengali Mohal in Kanpur. htc...
