Meerut, Nov. 15 -- Seventeen years after a robbery and murder in Amroha, two brothers from Muzaffarnagar have been sentenced to life imprisonment. The verdict was delivered by the additional sessions judge of the special POCSO Court-III in Amroha, which also fined each man Rs.10,000. The case dates back to September 11, 2008, when six armed men broke into the home of Ramveer Singh, a production manager at the Jubilant Factory, in Gajraula's MDA Colony. At about 4.30am, the family was asleep when the gang entered and began looting the house. Ramveer Singh tried to resist and was shot in the face, dying instantly. His wife and son, Narendra, ran to the drawing room after hearing the gunfire, but they too were shot and sustained injuries. The attackers fled with Rs.50,000 in cash, jewellery, and four mobile phones. Police began their investigation after Narendra filed a complaint. Surveillance clues helped officers track down Anjum of Naya Gaon, Muzaffarnagar. His questioning led police to his alleged accomplices, brothers Najakat and Shahzad of Kamhera, Musharraf (also known as Gulzar) of Jhinjhana, and two others, Bhoora and Qadir. Following Anjum's arrest, police detained the brothers and Musharraf. Anjum was convicted in 2015 and given a life sentence. Qadir and Bhoora were later killed in a police encounter in Roorkee on September 17, 2019. Musharraf escaped police custody in Moradabad in 2011 and has been missing since. Najakat and Shahzad were released on bail but later surrendered their bail bonds. Najakat had already served a life sentence in another case and was living at home before this new conviction, while Shahzad remains in Bijnor Jail. During the trial, the prosecution, represented by ADGC Amit Kumar Vashisth, produced eight witnesses. The case went through 241 hearings before the court found both brothers guilty of murder during a robbery and sentenced them to life imprisonment....
