Leopard that killed eight-year-old girl captured in Dudhwa area
Lakhimpur Kheri, Oct. 18 -- After a week-long intensive search in the north Nighasan forest range, Dudhwa buffer zone officials captured a leopard near Rannagar village early on Friday.
The leopard is believed to be the same one that killed eight-year-old Preet Kaur on October 9, when she was attacked and dragged into sugarcane fields while returning home with her aunt. Locals tried to rescue her but found her dead.
Following the incident, forest teams intensified patrolling and installed cages and cameras to track the animal. Forest range officer Bhupendra Singh said the captured leopard is a six- to seven-year-old male.
Deputy field director Naveen Khandelwal said the leopard was examined by Dudhwa veterinary expert Dr Daya Shankar and found fit for release. He added that the animal would be released into the forest after obtaining necessary permissions. HTC...
