Leopard on loose in Vns injures three
VARANASI, May 25 -- Panic gripped residents of Lakhraon village under Gaurakala Gram Sabha in Chiraigaon block after a leopard injured three youths and was later spotted fleeing from a garden during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, forest officials said.
The big cat, which reportedly moved between gardens in the area on Friday evening, triggered an immediate response from the forest department. A 25-30 member rescue team rushed to the site and set up new cages to trap the leopard. Additional support, including a medical team from Lucknow and rescue teams from Ghazipur and Chandauli, was also called in, forest department said in a press release."The rescue team is equipped with safety gear including cages and nets and has been patrolling the area throughout the night," said divisional forest officer Swati. She added that trap cameras have been installed in various parts of the village and along the river to track the leopard's movements.
According to the forest department, the leopard was last seen late Friday night, running from one garden to another. On Saturday morning, fresh footprints suggested that the animal had moved out of the area, though surveillance efforts continue.The team remains stationed in the village with patrolling efforts underway in surrounding areas. Officials have urged residents not to venture out alone and to inform forest personnel immediately if the leopard is spotted again....
