Mussoorie, Sept. 23 -- A leopard that had been roaming in and around Chinakhan village of Almora district for the past seven days, leaving residents in fear, was finally captured by the forest department on Monday, forest officials said. According to forest officials, frequent sightings of the big cat had created panic in the area, with villagers avoiding fields, forests and even restricting children and the elderly from stepping out after dark. Alarmed by the scary situation, villagers had urged the forest department to intervene to capture the animal. Responding to the request, the Almora forest division launched a rescue operation. "A camera trap and cage were set up in the Chinakhan area after repeated reports of leopard movement was received. Following two days of continuous monitoring, our team deployed successfully trapped the leopard," said Deepak Singh, divisional forest officer (DFO), Almora.
