Leopard behind multiple attacks in Pauri Garhwal district caught
India, Oct. 8 -- Residents of several villages in Ekeshwar block of Pauri Garhwal were relieved after a leopard that had terrorised the area for nearly a month was trapped in an iron cage, forest department officials said on Tuesday.
According to divisional forest officials, the big cat had injured a 45-year-old villager, Neeraj Panthri, in Dungsholi Talli, Kuladhidgar village on Monday when he was sweeping the courtyard of his house. The leopard was captured later the same evening.
"Within hours of the attack, the leopard was found and trapped. We had also installed five trap cameras in and around the village to monitor its movement," said Damdeval forest range officer Rajendra Singh.
Village pradhan Manju Devi said the leopard had been frequently spotted in the area over the past month, forcing the forest department to intensify patrolling. "The injured villager was taken to the community health centre at Naugaonkhal and later referred to the district hospital in Pauri. He sustained multiple injuries on the head and face, requiring nearly two dozen stitches," she said.
Meanwhile, in Kimgadi village, a cow was killed by a leopard on Sunday, with locals reporting sightings of the animal near fields....
