leopard behind local man's 'killing' trapped in champawat
Rudrapur, Nov. 24 -- Forest officials on Sunday trapped a leopard accused of killing a 45-year-old man in Mangoli village in Champawat district earlier this month, officials said. The captured leopard, believed to be 8-9 years old, was found in healthy condition and has been shifted to the Almora rescue centre, they added.
Local resident Bhuwan Ram was found dead on November 12, said officials, adding that the death was suspected to be a leopard attack.
To capture the leopard, the forest department launched an intensive operation, installing four cages and 12 camera traps across the village landscape, said officials. A drone was also deployed to track the animal's movement, they added.
Narayan Datt Pandey, ranger of the Lohaghat range, said the leopard was found trapped early on Sunday. "We were informed at around 5 am that the leopard had been caught," he said.
Forest officials said the captured leopard will remain under observation at the rescue centre....
