LUCKNOW, June 7 -- Uttar Pradesh's One of the top-most cricketers of his time and leg-spinner Piyush Chawla on Friday announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. A member of India's 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup-winning squads, Chawla represented India in three Tests, seven T20Is and 25 ODIS, picking up 43 wickets across the three formats. Aligarh's Chawla has now been doing commentary for TV and happens to be the joint third-highest wicket-taker in the cash-rich Indian Premier League history, having taken 192 scalps in 192 matches, and won one title with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014. Most recently, the leg-spinner played for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024. In a bid to play in the IPL again, Chawla chose to play for Uttar Pradesh after a gap of seven years and did try his luck in the second edition of the UP T20 League in August last before playing in three matches, including one first-class game for Uttar Pradesh, but wasn't picked by any franchise in the mega auction for IPL last year. "After more than two decades on the field, the time has come to bid adieu to the beautiful game," Chawla wrote on Instagram. "Though I step away from the crease, cricket will always live within me. I now look forward to embarking on a new journey, carrying with me the spirit and lessons of this beautiful game," he said. "From representing India at the highest level to being part of the victorious 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup squads, every moment in this incredible journey has been nothing short of a blessing. These memories will forever remain etched in my heart," Chawla wrote in the post. The cricketer thanked his coaches, teams and IPL franchises for playing a part in shaping his career, and described his time in the popular T20 league as "a special chapter in my career. A heartfelt thank you to the IPL franchises who placed their trust in me - Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, and Mumbai Indians." The leg-spinner was a part of KKR's 2014 IPL-winning team and hit the winning runs for the Gautam Gambhir-led side in the summit clash against the Punjab Kings in Bengaluru....
