LDA revamping CG City wetland to welcome migratory birds
LUCKNOW, Nov. 11 -- The CG City Wetland, a hub of eco-tourism in the state capital, is getting ready to welcome migratory birds. The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has signed an agreement with the Gomti Task Force and the Turtle Survival Alliance.
This will involve removing water hyacinth and other harmful aquatic plants from the 37-acre wetland. Additionally, solid waste management will be used to control the oxygen level in the water. LDA vice chairman Prathmesh Kumar said the wetland, developed behind the Ekana Cricket Stadium, has become a centre for eco-tourism in Lucknow, promoting the natural habitat of various indigenous and foreign bird species.
"With the arrival of winter, migratory birds have started flocking to the area, prompting efforts to rejuvenate the wetland," he added. The Gomti Task Force, led by Major AS Nagi of the Territorial Army, has begun work on removing harmful aquatic plants and managing solid waste to restore the natural water flow. The removed organic matter will be converted into useful manure.
Water samples will be tested in a lab to monitor quality and chemical/biological techniques will be used to treat polluted water. Plants like Canna and Vetiver will be used for water purification, controlling oxygen levels and supporting aquatic life. Treated water from the CG City STP will be supplied to the wetland, maintaining water levels throughout the year.
The wetland is a popular spot for birdwatching, with facilities like bird-watching hides, watchtowers, and viewing decks offering scenic views. Stamped pathway and railing facilitate exploration, and entry is currently free, allowing families to visit and enjoy the wetland....
