LUCKNOW, Sept. 16 -- The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) on Monday began removing unauthorised constructions from parks and vacant plots in Gomti Nagar Extension, acting after a Hindustan Times report highlighted the disappearance of green zones in the locality. LDA vice-chairman Prathamesh Kumar directed the immediate demolition of structures raised on land earmarked for parks and residential schemes. "Encroachments will not be tolerated, and strict action will follow if any negligence is found," he said, warning officials against laxity in protecting open spaces. On the first day of the drive, enforcement teams targeted parks where garages and extended residential units had come up. Officials said the anti-encroachment operation will continue in phases across identified pockets of the locality. Residents, who had long raised complaints, expressed cautious relief. "Encroachments keep coming back because there is no vigilance after removal. We hope this time LDA ensures permanent protection of the parks," Vikas Tiwari, who lives in Sector 4, said.
