LDA begins translocation of trees for Green Corridor project
LUCKNOW, July 5 -- In a bid to protect mature trees while executing a key infrastructure project, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has started uprooting and relocating, called transplantation or translocation, over 150 trees falling in the path of the upcoming Green Corridor between Hanuman Setu and Kukrail in the state capital.
The initiative aims to ensure that no tree is cut down during the widening of embankments for the 28-km-long corridor stretching from IIM Road to Kisan Path. Divisional commissioner Roshan Jacob launched transplantation drive on Friday near Hanuman Setu. In the first phase, 21 fully grown trees-around 15 years old-were uprooted with their root systems and successfully replanted along the Gomti Riverfront. Vice-chairman, LDA, Prathamesh Kumar said the 4-km stretch from Hanuman Setu to Kukrail had 166 old trees that needed to be shifted due to construction work. htc...
