LUCKNOW, July 11 -- Spirited LDA 'B' Club got off to a flying start in the District Football League 2025, notching up a convincing 3-1 win over Elite Club, at the Chowk Stadium here on Thursday. But the second match of the day between Mamta Club and Yuva Club ended in a 1-1 draw. Abuzar scored a brace for LDA 'B' Club, whereas Ali struck one. For Elite Club, Vidit netted the consolation goal. Playing true to their reputation, LDA Club 'B' dominated the proceedings from the very start, but found the rivals quite tough, especially in the first half as all their attacks were overpowered by the Elite Club defenders. However, right winger Ali broke the ice in the 30th minute, pushing a straight shot into goal (1-0). The ding dong battle continued even after a change in the ends as Abuzar netted the second goal for the side in the 42nd minute to help the side take 2-0 lead. But in the 64th minute, Vidit shot one back for Elite Club to reduce the margin to 1-2, before Abuzar struck his second goal in the 70th minute to complete the formality (3-1). Elite Club though kept attacking the rivals goalpost, most of their shots went outside the goalpost. The second match of the day turned out to be a cliff hanger as Yuca Club forged into lead in the 44th minute when Amardeep shot the ball home from the left flank (1-0). However, this didn't dampen the spirit of Mamta Club and they kept phishing rivals back with a series of attacks in the second half. Their repeated efforts paid rich dividends ten minutes before the hooter when Deepak found the target with a quick lob, lodging a bunch of defenders to draw parity for the side. On Friday, LDA 'A' Club will take on Lucknow Football Club in the first match of the day, whereas Big Blue Club meet Aliganj Sporting Club in the second match. Ghaziabad's Chinmay Shukla on Thursday won a silver medal at the Afro Asian Powerlifting Championship in Japan. Shukla finished second in the junior category in the 66 kg weight category with a total lift of 605 kg. Japan's Nemoto lifted 610 kg to finish top first, whereas Taipei's Chen lifted a total of 582.5 kg and finished third. CAL White defeated CAL Emerald by 40 runs to make it to the quarterfinals of the Under-12 Neeru Kapoor Memorial Cricket Tournament, at the Yoganand Ground here on Thursday. Batting first after winning the toss, CAL White with the help of an unbeaten 59 by Shaurya Mukesh scored 120/6 in 25 overs. Mukesh struck five boundaries and two sixes in his 60-ball innings. Sarvagya Singh also remained unbeaten on 18. In reply, CAl Emerald could make 80 in 20.1 overs. Dhruv struck highest 18 for the side. For CAl White, Agrim Verma, who was later named man-of-the-match, finished with 4/20. In another pre-quarterfinal match of the day, CAL Green defeated CAL Teal by nine wickets....
