PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 28 -- With the aim of checking power pilferage in densely populated areas of Sangam city, the electricity department has started intense combing operations in over two dozen such localities. According to chief engineer (distribution) Rajesh Kumar, power consumption was many times more than the sanctioned load in the identified areas. He further said this could be a clear indication of rampant power pilferage there. "We have carried out a survey in different areas for identifying pockets where maximum pilferage of power is taking place. For example, densely populated areas under Karelabagh, Bamrauli and Rambagh divisions have maximum cases of power theft. We will conduct intensive checking from next month," he added. As per the chief engineer, over 47 km of overhead Aerial Bunch Conductor (ABC) had been laid in identified densely populated localities to prevent power pilferage.
