Lawyers allege police excesses, block road
PRAYAGRAJ, May 17 -- Lawyers of the Allahabad high court took to the streets to protest the alleged police excesses against one of their colleagues, here on Friday.
They staged a sit-in protest by blocking the intersection near the Polo Ground after the High Court flyover.
During the blockade, the agitating lawyers demanded registration of FIR against the accused SHO and other policemen for the "murderous" assault on advocate Akash Mishra.
The lawyers staged road blockade for over four hours and raised slogans. At 6:30 pm, the lawyers lifted the blockade after ACP gave them a copy of the FIR against the accused policemen and their suspension order.
Akash Mishra, who also protested, alleged that the SHO stopped him for no reason when he was going to Naini, held him by the collar and assaulted him on the head. According to Akash, he fainted due to a deep injury to his head, then the policemen beat him with sticks and left him injured.
About ten minutes after the incident, Mishra was taken to a hospital by passersby....
