Agra, Nov. 10 -- A lawyer was arrested for allegedly raping a sexual assault survivor at a hotel here, police said on Sunday. Jitendra Singh, who is said to be the legal counsel of the men accused of gang raping the woman in 2022, was arrested after police raided his house on Friday, they added. He was hospitalised after he suffered fractures in both his legs when he reportedly tried to escape the police team. Singh had reportedly offered to get the case settled for the woman. However, no settlement could be reached between the parties during a conversation on Thursday, police added. Later, Singh asked the woman to stay back and took her to a hotel near Shilpgram. The following night, the lawyer allegedly went to her room, where he assaulted her, as per the complaint submitted by the woman. Deputy commissioner of police (DCP-Agra City) Syed Ali Abbas confirmed that Jitendra Singh had been arrested on the charges of rape (Section 64(1) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita) with the gangrape survivor after the latter lodged a complaint at the Ekta police station of Agra. "Police raided the house of the lawyer on Friday, but he attempted to abscond. In the process, he fell down and got his legs fractured. The lawyer was taken into police custody and hospitalised. He will be sent to judicial custody on the court's orders after his treatment."...
