Agra, Oct. 16 -- Brajendra Rawat, president of the Collectorate Bar Association of Agra, has been sentenced to seven years in prison, while his son Krishna Rawat and daughter Priyanka Rawat received life sentences for the murder of bank manager Sachin Upadhayay-who was married to Priyanka. Additional district and sessions judge (Court No. 17) in Agra, Nitin Kumar Thakur, pronounced the judgement on Wednesday. The case pertains to the death of 36-year-old Sachin Upadhayay, branch manager at Bank of India, who was allegedly killed on the night of October 11, 2023. The defence had claimed the death was a suicide. Following the sensational death, the Tajganj police station in Agra registered a case on October 18, 2023, under sections 302 (murder) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. The charge sheet was submitted on January 17, 2024, and charges were formally framed on July 30, 2024. On Tuesday, the court found all three accused guilty and announced the sentencing on Wednesday. The court acquitted Vijendra Rawat of murder charges but found him guilty of criminal conspiracy and destroying evidence, sentencing him to seven years imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1,000. His son Krishna Rawat and daughter Priyanka were found guilty under Section 302 for murder and sentenced to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 5,000. Krishna Rawat was already in jail, while bail for Vijendra and Priyanka was cancelled following the conviction. Sachin Upadhayay was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his home, where he lived with his wife Priyanka and their two children. Keshav Dev Sharma, the father of the deceased, filed the FIR, stating that 'Sachin and Priyanka married in 2015. However, Priyanka was unwilling to live with the family. The couple had lived separately in Gandhi Nagar, Gujarat, before returning to Agra, where Priyanka allegedly continued to quarrel over trivial issues.' On October 11, 2023, the complainant received a mysterious call from Vijendra Rawat, informing him that after an argument with Priyanka, Sachin had been "made to sleep in peace." When the father tried to contact his son, Sachin's phone was switched off. The following day, Vijendra Rawat informed him that Sachin had died, claiming it was a suicide despite visible injury marks on the body....
