law student, 24, gang-raped in kolkata college, three arrested
Kolkata, June 28 -- Three people were arrested on Thursday on charges of gang-raping a 24-year-old student inside the campus of a law-college in south Kolkata on June 25, police said.
While the prime accused Monojit Mishra, 31, is a former student of the college, the other two Zaib Ahmed, 19 and Pramit Mukherjee, 20 are studying in the college.
Mishra's social media account claims that he was former president of TMC's youth wing in the same college. Presently, he works as a criminal lawyer in the Alipore court in Kolkata. He also works as a contractual employee in the college.
"We have registered an FIR under sections 127(2) (wrongful confinement), 70(1) (gang rape) and 3(5) (common intention) of the BNS. Three persons have been arrested on the basis of a written complaint lodged by the victim on June 26," a senior Kolkata Police officer told HT.
Police said that the alleged incident took place between 7:30 pm and 10:50 pm on Wednesday. Preliminary investigations suggest that the woman reached the college around 4pm for some work. She was asked to stay back by Mishra but she refused his offer. Mishra and his aides overpowered her and took her to the guard room where she was raped....
