Launch of special summary revision of electoral rolls soon
LUCKNOW, June 18 -- A special summary revision of electoral rolls in 403 assembly constituencies of Uttar Pradesh will be launched soon. The UP chief electoral officer (CEO) has started preparation for the exercise on the instructions of the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The training session of electoral registration officers (EROs) is being organised in three phases on June 17, 19, and 25 at the UP Academy of Administration and Management (UPAM), Aliganj, Lucknow.
CEO Navdeep Rinwa inaugurated the first phase of the training session on Tuesday. Addressing the EROs, he said the aim of the training is to ensure quality electoral rolls (voter list). "The name of every eligible citizen should be added in the voter list and it should be error free," he said.
The booths with low gender ratio should be identified and booth level officers (BLOs) prepare an action plan to improve the ratio. The inclusion of names of voters in age group 18-19 years should be done according to rules. All recognized national and state political parties should be provided free copies of the voter list on the day of draft and final publication, said Rinwa.
The objective of the training is to dispose of all claims and objections related to electoral rolls in a timely and qualitative manner, he said.
The ECI is imparting training to one ERO from each district of the state and one BLO supervisor from each assembly constituency at IIIDEM, New Delhi, in five phases. All the assistant electoral registration officers and BLO supervisors, who have received training in the commission, have been briefed by the office of the UP CEO on June 12 regarding revision of electoral rolls....
