Mussoorie, June 29 -- Landslides continued to disrupt vehicular movement across several parts of Uttarakhand on Saturday, including the Char Dham route. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in seven districts on June 29 and 30, including Dehradun, followed by an orange alert on July 1 and 2 in eight districts. In Chamoli, the Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway was blocked at multiple points, including Nandprayag, following landslides and mud accumulation. "A vehicle carrying pilgrims was trapped near the Parthadeep landslide zone but was safely evacuated with police assistance. Traffic movement also resumed. Blockages near Pipal Koti and Bhanerpani were also cleared," according to NK Joshi, district disaster management officer, Chamoli. Heavy rains caused debris to enter a cowshed in Thirpak village, leading to the death of two goats and damage to toilets and standing crops. Agricultural fields in the village were also inundated, causing significant losses, officials said. Chamoli SDM Raj Kumar Pandey confirmed that while livestock was lost, there were no human casualties. A revenue team has been dispatched to assess the damage, he said. The landslide-prone Nandprayag zone has long required a permanent solution, said district official Ripu Daman Singh, adding that repeated incidents have been reported in the area. Meanwhile, debris also entered homes in Tefna village following overnight rains, and the Nand Nagar Ghat road was temporarily blocked due to a landslide. In Rudraprayag, continuous overnight rains led to blockages near Hanuman Temple, Shuttle Bridge, and Munkatiya, prompting deployment of SDRF, NDRF, and DDRF teams for relief operations. The national highway between Rudraprayag and Pauri was also closed at Sirobagarh in the morning but was later reopened following debris clearance. In a separate incident, National Highway 107A, connecting Chamoli, Gopeshwar, Mandal, and Chopta, suffered major structural damage near Devaladhar. A large crack appeared in the road, causing one section to cave in, halting movement of heavy vehicles, including buses and trucks. "Work has been ongoing since 7am to clear the road near Munkatiya," said Omkar Pandey, executive engineer, PWD NH Division, Rudraprayag. IMD director, Dehradun, Bikram Singh said, "Heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in Bageshwar, Dehradun, Tehri, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Nainital, and other districts over the next 24 hours."...
