PRAYAGRAJ, March 29 -- The Allahabad high court has stayed a notice issued by the tehsildar Sambhal to one Ali Ashraf on January 1, 2026, directing him to show cause regarding his possession over the land, which records show is a 'Kabristan' (graveyard), adjacent to Shahi Jama Masjid there within 15 days. The court further directed the parties to maintain the status quo over the property. Hearing a writ petition filed by Ali Ashraf, Justice Manish Kumar Nigam in his order dated March 25 also instructed the state government to file a reply in the matter and directed that the case be listed on May 6 for the next hearing.
