Lack of connectivity remains an issue for Sheel village: Official
Rudrapur, July 3 -- A 38-year-old man carried his 13-year-old sick daughter on his back for about eight kilometres to reach the nearest road in Barakot block of Champawat to take her to the hospital.
Suresh Bisht is a resident of Sheel village under Barakot block and around 40-km from Champawat district headquarters. Bisht's daughter Nisha, a student of 8th standard, suddenly fell ill on Monday and needed medical attention.
"The next day, I carried her on my back for eight kilometres from the village to reach the main road to get a taxi to the government hospital in Lohaghat. Nisha was diagnosed with jaundice," he said.
"After studying till Class 5, students have to walk about 10km daily to the government inter college in Chaumel," he added.
Lohaghat-based social activist Jagdish Rai said, "Lack of the road is a big problem for the Sheel village.
This was one of the villages that boycotted the assembly elections in 2022. The then district magistrate reached the village and assured the road then villagers withdrew the boycott. However, nothing happened till now."...
