LUCKNOW, Nov. 5 -- A construction worker died and others injured after an under construction roof collapsed in Phoolbagh Colony, Beniganj, under Gudamba police limits in Lucknow on Tuesday afternoon, police said. Additional inspector Bhanu Pratap Singh of Gudamba police station said the house is being constructed by one Santosh Kumar Verma, a resident of Mishripur. Around 3:30 pm, labourers were installing shuttering for a stairway structure on the second floor when the slab suddenly caved in. Ram Kumar Teli, 40, a native of Sitapur, died on the spot, while his co-workers Sangram, 24, Kamta Prasad, 45, of Rampur Kala in Sitapur, Shreechand Awasthi, 45, of Manusyari in Bahraich and contractor Gajodhar were injured. All the injured were rushed to Balrampur Hospital where doctors declared Ram Kumar dead. Sangram remains under treatment, while others were discharged after first aid. The collapsing slab also struck an 11,000-volt high-tension line, snapping it and causing immediate power disruption in the locality. Electricity department personnel promptly arrived, repaired the damaged line, and restored supply. Police have informed the family of the deceased. Preliminary investigations suggest that the collapse was caused by excess load during shuttering. Authorities are likely to examine whether proper safety measures were followed during the construction or not....
