Kushinagar court awards death in 30 working days
LUCKNOW, March 26 -- A court in Kushinagar has awarded the death penalty to a 22-year-old man for the rape and murder of a minor, completing the entire legal process within 30 working days of the FIR being registered, informed police officials in a press release shared on Wednesday.
The case pertains to an incident under Jataha Bazar police station in Kushinagar district, where the body of a minor boy was found on February 23, a day after he went missing during a local function. An FIR was promptly registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
The accused, Pintu alias Koyal, a resident of the same village, was arrested on February 25 and sent to judicial custody. Police carried out an investigation, collecting digital evidence through the e-Sakshya application and securing medical and forensic reports on priority, including DNA analysis. The chargesheet was filed within nine working days on March 7, and the court took cognisance the following day. During the trial, witnesses were examined on a day-to-day basis to ensure expeditious proceedings.
On March 25, the additional sessions judge and special judge (Pocso), Kushinagar, found the accused guilty based on strong evidence and sentenced him to death, along with a fine of Rs.2 lakh.
