Kotwali police auctions 87 vehicles under 'Op Clean-02' campaign
PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 15 -- To make the police stations get rid of seized vehicles dumped for years in its premises, the Kotwali police auctioned 87 such vehicles under "Operation Clean-02" campaign.
The government has already directed for setting up of Vehicle Detention Yards in every district of the state for parking such seized vehicles but delay on the part of district administration in allocating land for the same has resulted in police stations remaining overcrowded and congested.
As per information provided by the office of DCP (City), Prayagraj, the auctioned 87 vehicles were seized and filed as unclaimed under Section 207 of the Motor Vehicles Act at the police station and were legally disposed of.
The vehicles were auctioned in the presence of City Magistrate Prayagraj, Assistant Police Commissioner, Kotwali Commissionerate Prayagraj, Divisional Transport Officer, Prayagraj and Police Station Incharge Kotwali.
It may be mentioned that with an aim to decongest police stations of state, presently cluttered with dumps of seized and unclaimed vehicles, the UP Government had recently announced setting up of Vehicle Detention Yards in all 75 districts of the state through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model which would roughly help deal with lakhs of vehicles, both seized and unclaimed, dumped at different police stations in state.
As per the policy formulated by the Department of Transport, UP Government, a minimum of 1 acre to 2 acre land, depending upon requirement was to be allocated by district magistrate on the outskirts of the district for shifting these vehicles.
However, despite the requirement the allocation of land could not be done in Prayagraj so far.
Regional transport officer (administration), Prayagraj Rajesh Chaturvedi said that the proposal for setting up of the detention yard has already been forwarded to the office of the district magistrate and soon after allocation of suitable land for it, work for setting up of the yard would begin....
