Korean interest in UP surges after Busan Buddhism Expo
LUCKNOW, Aug. 12 -- Uttar Pradesh's participation in the Busan International Buddhism Expo 2025, held from August 7 to 10, has drawn strong interest from Korean visitors, positioning the state as both a spiritual destination and a cultural and economic link between India and Korea.
The four-day event in Busan, South Korea, attracted attention from Korean Buddhist leaders, monastic communities, and cultural influencers towards the state's Buddhist circuit, from Sarnath to Kushinagar district.
As a result, more than 1,000 Korean pilgrims are expected to visit Uttar Pradesh between October 2025 and February 2026, including a 500-member delegation in January.
Officials said the event has also created opportunities for international tourism, investment, and cultural diplomacy.
Renewed Korean interest in Ayodhya, associated with Queen Heo Hwang-ok (Princess Suriratna), is adding to the state's appeal as a dual pilgrimage hub for Buddhist and cultural tourism....
