Meerut, Nov. 17 -- Shahjahanpur police on Sunday arrested a 20-year-old man, who led a gang of notorious robbers, after an exchange of fire. A police constable sustained a bullet injury during the encounter that took place near the district boundary. Superintendent of police (SP) Rajesh Dwivedi stated that the gang committed a robbery worth Rs 3 lakh in the Seharamau area of the district on November 6. According to police, the breakthrough began on Saturday when the Lucknow unit of the Special Task Force (STF) arrested two suspects- Gopal alias Manish from Allahganj in Shahjahanpur and Ravi Mishra from Hardoi district, who were allegedly involved in the incident. On Sunday, police received a tip-off that the gang leader, Abbas Gazi, was travelling from Hardoi to Shahjahanpur with his associates. Acting swiftly, a police team positioned near the district boundary spotted three men riding a motorcycle. When the police tried to intercept them, the suspects opened fire. Officers retaliated, and Gazi was shot in the chest, SP Dwivedi said. He was immediately taken to a local hospital and later referred to one in Lucknow, where his condition remains critical. During the exchange of fire, constable Pradeep Chauhan, posted at Seharamau South Police Station, suffered a bullet wound to his hand. Police confirmed that two associates of Gazi were apprehended at the scene. Further investigations into the gang's activities and possible involvement in other crimes are underway....
