LUCKNOW, May 27 -- Families of teachers who die during service in government-aided degree colleges will get death gratuity, as per a government order. Kin of those teachers who did not opt for retirement and died before the age of 58 years and those teachers who opted for retirement at 60 years, but died before the prescribed period for changing the option will be entitled to gratuity, stated higher education minister Yogendra Upadhyay in a release. Similarly, in those cases after February 3, 2004, where teachers did not opt for retirement and died before the age of 60 years, and those teachers who opted for retirement at 62 years, but died before the prescribed period for changing the option, their family members will also be paid death gratuity. The minister said this decision reflects the sensitivity and public welfare approach of the UP government.
