Kidnapping, extortion of artistes:Gangsters Act invoked against 10
Meerut, Feb. 15 -- Police in Bijnor have tightened the legal noose around 10 men accused of kidnapping actor Mushtaq Khan and comedian Sunil Pal and extorting ransom from them, registering a case under the Gangsters Act at the City Kotwali police station. Despite the fresh charges, all of the accused are currently out on bail after being released from jail earlier.
According to police, City Kotwal Rampratap filed the case against Lavi alias Sushant alias Himanshu of Nai Basti; Akash alias Gola alias Deependra of Nai Basti; Sarthak Chaudhary alias Ricky of Rammu Ka Chauraha; Ankit alias Pahadi of Ram Ka Chauraha; Arjun Karnwal of Bulla Ka Chauraha; Azeem Ahmed of Mohalla Kassaban; Sabuddin alias Saibi of Mohalla Azarjan; Shubham and Shiva of Nai Basti Chamar Peda; and Shashank of Janakpur in Ghaziabad.
Police allege the men operate as an organised criminal gang led by Sarthak alias Ricky Chaudhary. The rest are said to be active members involved in forming a syndicate that commits crimes such as kidnapping and extortion for financial and material gain.
Investigators said that on November 20, 2024, the accused allegedly lured Khan to an event, abducted him from Delhi, and brought him to Bijnor. He was reportedly held at a house in Nai Basti belonging to Sushant alias Lavi, where he was threatened and forced to pay Rs.2.20 lakh. A case was registered at the City Kotwali police station based on Khan's complaint.
In a separate incident on December 2, comedian Pal was allegedly abducted and extorted. He was reportedly released after paying Rs 8 lakh.
A case was registered on his complaint at Lal Kurti police station in Meerut. At that time, police arrested nine accused, while another was apprehended separately by Meerut police and sent to jail.
Confirming the latest action, Abhishek Jha, superintendent of police, Bijnor, said that proceedings under the Gangsters Act have been initiated against the accused involved in the kidnappings and that a formal case has been registered to pursue further legal action....
