Kidnapped Punjab student found safe
PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 26 -- A 13-year-old student from Moga district in Punjab, who was kidnapped earlier this week, was safely rescued by police in Prayagraj on Thursday. One person has been arrested, while others involved in the case are still on the run.
The student, Sarthak Mahajan, is the son of Vinod Kumar, who works at the SDM office in Dharamkot, Moga. Sarthak went missing on Tuesday morning while he was on his way to school.
Later, his father received a phone call from the kidnapper demanding a ransom of Rs.10 lakh.
A case was registered at the Dharamkot police station, and police began tracing the phone number used in the call.
Sub-Inspector Lakhwinder Singh from Dharamkot, along with his team, traced the location of the phone to Prayagraj. With the help of police from Shivkuti police station, they found the boy in a four-wheeler near the Potato Mill crossing in Teliyarganj.
Police arrested one suspect, Mohammad Faraheen Siddiqui, a resident of Sambalpur under the Industrial Area police station in Prayagraj. However, according to sources, three or four other people with him managed to escape when they saw the police.
Punjab police took custody of the accused and the child after securing a transit remand. A vehicle used in the crime was also recovered.
Deputy commissioner of police (City) Manish Kumar Shandilya said that Punjab police informed them about the kidnapping and sought assistance. The case is registered at Dharamkot police station in Punjab, he added.htc...
