LUCKNOW, Nov. 30 -- A senior faculty member at the King George's Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, has filed a complaint with the state women's commission, alleging misbehaviour and sexual harassment by a male colleague in the same department. A committee has been constituted to investigate the charges under the Vishaka guidelines. In her written complaint, the faculty member stated that she has been targeted on multiple occasions in recent months, including during official meetings. She cited Section 3 of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, and demanded a formal investigation. The complainant highlighted an instance from a departmental meeting where she alleged the accused insulted her, prompting her to report the matter after internal efforts failed. "I first thought things would settle down, but when they worsened, I decided to take a stand against harassment," she stated in the letter to the commission. Initially reported to KGMU authorities, the matter did not yield relief, leading her to approach the state women's commission. Babita Chauhan, chairperson of the commission, said, "We will wait for the report filed by the Vishaka committee constituted by the institution before deciding on further action." Dr KK Singh, president of the KGMU Teacher Association, said, "It is unfortunate that such a matter has come to light. The committee is probing the allegations, and we hope justice will be served."...
