LUCKNOW, Dec. 23 -- The King George's Medical University (KGMU) administration on Monday set up a six-member committee under the Vishakha guidelines to probe the Saturday's suicide attempt bid by a woman resident doctor who alleged pressure for religious conversion from a junior resident doctor with whom she had been in a relationship since July.. Later in the day, the committee, led by Dr Monica Kohli, started its inquiry and recorded the statements of both the doctors and sought documents to support the same, said KGMU spokesperson Prof KK Singh. The family of the woman resident doctor also submitted a written application during the day. Keeping in view the sensitivity of the case, the committee will complete ist interim investigation on Tuesday, said a KGMU official. "Such an act will not be acceptable in the university. The Vishakha committee was formed after the strict instructions from the KGMU VC. The VC also said it is the matter of the female resident's safety, health and confidence. If the allegations are found to be true, strict action will be taken against the male junior resident," the KGMU spokesperson said. According to the family, the woman had been in a relationship with the junior resident doctor since July 2025. They alleged that he repeatedly exerted pressure on her for religious conversion and left her when she refused.
