Lucknow, Aug. 28 -- The nurses association of King George's Medical University (KGMU) has written to the registrar, questioning new rules that prohibit nursing officers from wearing nail polish and heavy or expensive jewellery while on duty. In the letter sent on Wednesday, the association argued that medical professionals are already trained in ethics and infection control practices, including avoiding potential infection sources like long nails, jewellery, watches and nail polish. It questioned the basis for introducing these specific rules, seeking clarification on the research or evidence supporting the decision. The association also pointed out that it has been requesting three amendments to the nursing manual for the past eight months, of which only one has been implemented. It wondered if these new restrictions applied exclusively on nursing staff or to all hospital staff, including doctors, residents and paramedical employees. King George's Medical University media cell in charge Dr KK Singh said the rules were framed after consultations with senior nursing officers.
