KGMU docs take on cancer myths with weekly awareness classes
LUCKNOW, March 2 -- A cancer diagnosis can be terrifying, but at King George's Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, doctors are ensuring fear does not stand in the way of treatment. The department of pathology has launched weekly classes to educate patients and caregivers about cancer and biopsy procedures, cutting through myths that often delay critical care.
Held every Wednesday in the department's lecture theatre, the sessions use slides and interactive discussions to address misconceptions surrounding cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Prof Rashmi Kushwaha of the department of pathology said many patients arrive with anxiety about biopsy testing. "Not all biopsy reports indicate cancer, and early detection can aid effective treatment," she said.
The classes cover cancer symptoms, causes, prevention, and the role of biopsy in identifying the disease. Special focus is placed on needle biopsy, a minimally invasive procedure that extracts small tissue or fluid samples from suspicious areas for lab analysis, guided by ultrasound, CT scan, or mammography.
"Our classes aim to dispel misconceptions and empower patients to make informed decisions about their health," Prof Kushwaha added.
The department plans to continue the sessions for patients and caregivers from across the region....
