KGMU conducts surgery for massive rotator cuff tear
LUCKNOW, July 23 -- King George's Medical University (KGMU) said it has performed the state's first InSpace balloon spacer surgery-a procedure used to treat massive rotator cuff tears.
The surgery was led by Prof Kumar Shantanu and Prof Ashish Kumar, both senior orthopaedic surgeons, stated an official note on Tuesday.
Prof Kumar Shantunu, who's also a sports injury expert, said: "This technique is a ray of hope for patients who have been suffering from shoulder pain and limited mobility for years."
Prof Ashish Kuma, who's the head of the orthopedics department at KGMU, was quotes as saying: "We believe the procedure will make a significant difference in the lives of many patients."
The entire procedure took approximately 30 minutes, and the patient was discharged the next day. The patient experienced significant relief from pain and was able to perform normal arm movements within a few days, the note added.
InSpace balloon spacer surgery is a modern technique that helps patients with severe rotator cuff injuries that "cannot be repaired".
