PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 29 -- A constable posted in Pratapgarh's cyber-surveillance cell for nearly six years allegedly befriended the very criminals he was investigating and became involved in their activities. He was taken into custody by Kerala Police after travelling to Delhi on leave to meet a woman believed to be his accomplice. He was later suspended by Pratapgarh SP for remaining absent from the police lines without authorisation. According to reports, constable Pradeep Nayan, who was tasked with obtaining call detail records (CDRs) of criminals and other surveillance duties, came into contact with a woman in Delhi who would send him phone numbers of criminals and potential targets. He allegedly procured their CDRs and passed them on to cyber-fraud gangs. Through her, Nayan allegedly developed direct links with cyber-criminals and began receiving financial benefits for assisting them. Last week, Nayan travelled to Delhi on leave to meet the woman, during which he was detained by Kerala Police and taken to Kerala for questioning in connection with an economic-offences case. This resulted in his prolonged absence from duty. Following this, Pratapgarh SP Deepak Bhukar suspended him. htc...
