Dehradun, Dec. 3 -- Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday urged people to prioritise national unity and integrity above all else, calling on citizens to follow the ideals of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and rise above caste, region, sect and language. Dhami was speaking at the Sardar Gatha programme held as part of the "Sardar@150 Unity March" in Sadhali, Vadodara, Gujarat where he participated alongside defence minister Rajnath Singh. Sardar Patel's 150th birth anniversary fell on October 31, 2025, which also marked National Unity Day. The Centre is commemorating the milestone through a two-year celebration that began in October 2024 and will conclude in October 2026. Paying tribute on behalf of the people of Uttarakhand, Dhami described Patel as the architect of modern India, saying he realised the dream of national integration through his "indomitable will, vision and unwavering dedication". The CM recalled Patel's leadership in the Kheda and Bardoli farmers' movements and said he dedicated his life to the service of the nation. Dhami said Patel united 562 princely states through dialogue, courage and firm resolve. He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had paid a true tribute to Patel by declaring his birth anniversary as National Unity Day, and that the PM was taking forward Patel's vision with the mantra of "One India, Best India". Referring to the abrogation of Article 370, Dhami said the move fulfilled the resolve of Patel and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee for "One Country, One Law, One Constitution". He also highlighted initiatives such as the Statue of Unity in Kevadia and the nationwide Run for Unity as efforts to inspire youth to follow Patel's path. The CM said the Uttarakhand government organised Ekta Yatras in every district as part of the "Sardar@150 Unity March". He said he himself participated in four major yatras, which included activities on drug de-addiction, yoga and health, along with efforts to promote local handicrafts and indigenous products through cooperative fairs.
