Dehradun, Aug. 12 -- The disaster management department has directed officials to remain on alert as many rivers in the state are in spate due to heavy rainfall. The Rudraprayag district administration has also suspended the Kedarnath yatra for three days. As per a bulletin from the Central Water Commission, in Haridwar's Raisi, Banganga river was flowing at 230.63 metres - above the warning mark of 230 metres. Kosi river was also flowing at 746.04 metres at Betalghat in Nainital - above its warning mark of 746 metres. The letter to district magistrates of Haridwar, Tehri Garhwal, Nainital, Uttarkashi, Nand Ram Singh, duty officer and under secretary, state emergency operations centre, stated: "All revenue sub inspectors, village development officers, village panchayat officers will remain on alert in their respective areas...The tourists will not be allowed to move in the higher Himalayan regions." Following this, Rudraprayag district magistrate Prateek Jain said: "The warning system has been tested and people living along riverbanks have been urged to move to safer locations. In view of the safety of pilgrims, the Kedarnath Dham yatra has been temporarily suspended for three days," he said. "The water level of rivers is being monitored continuously, and weather alerts are being disseminated through various channels." According to a release from the district administration, heavy rainfall is expected across the state on August 12, 13 and 14. In Dehradun, two houses were damaged in Nehru Colony after the embankment along the Rispana river collapsed.
