LUCKNOW, Aug. 18 -- Young batter Madhav Kaushik on Sunday continued to dominate the UPTwenty20 League for the third consecutive season, smashing an unbeaten 95 to help defending champions Meerut Mavericks notch up a big 86-run win over Kanpur Superstars in the opening match of the new season here. Right-handed Kaushik, who smashed 31-ball 95 with the help of 10 boundaries and seven sixes set the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on fire, stitching an unbeaten 130 runs for third wicket with Rituraj Sharma as MM posted 225/2 after last year's runners-up Kanpur Superstars invited them to bat first after winning the toss. Even a slow start by the MM openers Akshay Dubey (44) and Swastik Chikara (19), didn't make any difference to Kaushik and Sharma. Chikara also became the first batter to cross the 1000-run mark in the UPTwenty20 League. In reply, MM bowlers kept knocking KS wickets on regular intervals before getting them out for paltry 139/9 in 20 overs. Skipper Sameer Rizvi struck highest 45, whereas Priyanshu Gautam made 34. Himanshu defeated Bhupendra Chaudhary 7-6 (5) to win the singles title at 35+ years category in the SB Lal Advocate Memorial Veteran Tennis Tournament-2025 here on Sunday.
