Kaushambi rape case probe handed over to SIT in Pratapgarh
PRAYAGRAJ, June 22 -- The investigation into the Kaushambi rape case will now be handled by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed in Pratapgarh. Following orders from the additional director general of police (ADG), the Pratapgarh superintendent of police (SP) has been directed to constitute the SIT. The SP will oversee the investigation, while the inspector-general (IG) zone will conduct a daily review of its progress.
ADG Prayagraj Zone Sanjeev Gupta has transferred the investigation of all three cases to the Pratapgarh Police. Following his directives, an SIT comprising an inspector, along with one male and one female sub-inspector will be formed, and I will personally oversee the probe.
Additionally, the IG of Prayagraj Zone will conduct a daily review of the investigation's progress, stated SP Pratapgarh, Anil Kumar.
He assured that the investigation into all three cases related to the Lohanda incident registered in Kaushambi will be carried out in a fair and impartial manner.
Confirming the move, ADG Sanjeev Gupta stated that the investigation has been handed over to the Pratapgarh Police.
On May 28, Siddharth Tiwari of Lohanda village in Kaushambi's Saini area was accused by a neighbour of molesting her eight year old daughter. Police registered an FIR that day and produced him in court the next. When the allegations were found to be unfounded, the rape and POCSO charges were dropped, and he was granted bail.
On June 4, his father died by suicide days before his release after all his efforts to convince officials of his son's innocence failed.
In the case, the deceased's second son, Akshay Tiwari, filed a complaint accusing village head Bhup Narayan Pal, his brother Vipin Pal, their father Jagat Pal, a relative Dharmendra Pal, and the father of the alleged rape victim of poisoning his father to death.
The following day, on June 5, the family members, villagers, and relatives staged a protest by placing the body of Rambabu Tiwari on the highway outside the village, blocking the road. During the demonstration, angry protestors allegedly assaulted police personnel who had arrived to disperse the crowd.
In connection with the incident, a case has been registered against 10 named individuals and 30 unidentified persons, including Abhishek Pandey, the district unit president of the Savarna Army, based on a complaint filed by the Sirathu outpost in-charge....
