Kaushambi man loses Rs 61 lakh in online trading fraud
PRAYAGRAJ, Oct. 5 -- Cybercriminals allegedly cheated a resident of Nagar Panchayat Daranagar-Kada Dham, Kaushambi, of nearly Rs 61 lakh in the name of online trading, police said on Saturday. The victim, Ram Datt Tripathi, reportedly fell ill after realising the huge loss.
According to the complaint, unknown callers persuaded Tripathi to download a mobile application and assured him of profitable returns. Believing them, he deposited large sums into their accounts between September 1 and October 3, 2025. In total, Rs 61,19,000 was siphoned off, police said.
Tripathi grew suspicious when all four phone numbers used by the fraudsters went unreachable. Following medical treatment for health issues caused by distress, he approached the Cyber Police Station on Friday and complained.
"Following the victim's complaint, a case has been registered against unidentified persons for defrauding Rs 61 lakh. The Cyber Police Station has been directed to conduct a thorough investigation and take necessary action," said ASP Rajesh Kumar Singh. Police said bank statements have been sought from the concerned branch and the linked accounts have been frozen.
A young resident of Fazilpur Gopalpur village under Painsa police station in Kaushambi was allegedly cheated of nearly Rs 6.69 lakh after his mobile phone was stolen in Delhi, police said on Friday. The victim, identified as Adalti Prasad, son of Shahdev, complained after discovering the financial loss.
According to the complaint, Prasad travelled to Delhi on April 26, 2025, for work. His mobile phone was stolen at Anand Vihar railway station. The device had online payment apps which had mobile banking access. Cybercriminals allegedly exploited these apps to transfer around Rs.6.69 lakh from his account.
Prasad said he immediately blocked his bank account and attempted to trace the fraud independently. On Friday, he filed a complaint with Painsa police. SHO Roshanlal confirmed that a cybercrime case has been registered and investigation is underway.
Thieves entered a house under Mandhata police station area of Pratapgarh on Friday night. During the intrusion, the daughter-in-law of the house woke up. The thieves silenced her with a knife and then made her fall unconscious by forcing her to inhale some intoxicating substance. The thieves fled with jewellery worth Rs 8 lakh.
The incident took place at the house of one Yaduvendra Pratap Singh, resident of Harakhpur village, under the Mandhata police station area on Friday night. He and his wife were sleeping in the outer room while their daughter-in-law, Pratima Singh, was sleeping in the inner room with their three-year-old son.
Their son, Surendra Vikram Singh, works in Lucknow. Around 11 pm, four masked persons, including two men and two women, entered the house from the roof. Just then, Pratima Singh opened the door and came out. The four entered and held a knife to her throat. One of the men also held a knife to the neck of her 3-year-old son, who was sleeping in the room. Fearing for her life, Pratima gave the men the keys of the cupboard. It is alleged that the men then rendered Pratima unconscious by making her inhale an intoxicating substance....
