Varanasi, Oct. 23 -- Baba Shri Kashi Vishwanath was adorned with 21 quintals of sweets on the occasion of the Annakoot festival, celebrated with great devotion and fervour at the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham amidst a large crowd of devotees on Wednesday. As in previous years, the Annakoot festival was observed on the Pratipada Tithi of Shukla Paksha (the bright fortnight) in the month of Kartik, commemorating the mythological event of Lord Krishna lifting Mount Govardhan on his little finger. The festival symbolises gratitude toward nature and the divine. In a press statement, the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple administration said that 21 quintals of various traditional sweets including chhena, boondi laddus, cashew barfi, dry fruit laddus and others were used to decorate Baba Shri Kashi Vishwanath and the temple premises. These sweets were sourced from various establishments associated with the Dham. The entire Dham complex was beautifully adorned with flowers, lamps and fragrant incense, creating a spiritually charged atmosphere filled with devotion and joy. As part of the rituals, a grand procession was held featuring the five-headed silver movable idol of Baba Kashi Vishwanath, along with Maa Gauri and Lord Ganesh. The procession began from the residence of the Mahant family in Tedhinim and culminated at the main temple. The idol was ceremoniously installed in the sanctum sanctorum to the melodious sounds of the shehnai, rhythmic beats of the damru and fervent chants of "Har Har Mahadev." Following this, the midday Bhog Aarti was performed as per traditional rituals. Devotees offered a variety of bhog (food offerings) to Baba Shri Kashi Vishwanath on this auspicious occasion....
