Kashi to shine bright on Dev Deepawali
VARANASI, Nov. 4 -- Kashi is set to light up again on Dev Deepawali on November 5, with lakhs of diyas creating a spectacular display along the ghats of the River Ganga. The celebrations will include Lord Shiva bhajans and a choreographed green firecracker show across the riverbank. A senior official said rows of lamps on the crescent-shaped ghats and floating on the water will create a beautiful blend of devotion and lights. The green firecracker show will light up the sandy bank across the Ganga.The Green Aerial Firecracker Show will begin at 8 pm in front of the Ganga Dwar of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham and will last about 10 minutes. Fireworks will reach a height of 200 metres along a 1,000-foot stretch. Green crackers will make the display environmentally friendly. A laser show will add colourful reflections on the river. Tourism and Culture minister Jaiveer Singh said, "Dev Deepawali is not just a festival of lights, it reflects the soul of Kashi. This year, visitors will see a unique blend of spirituality and innovation." On the night of Dev Deepawali, which falls on Kartik Purnima, the ghats of Kashi will glow with 25 lakh diyas. About 10 lakh will be arranged by the state government, while local ghat committees and volunteers will light the rest. The reflections on the Ganga are expected to create a breathtaking sight....
