LUCKNOW, Nov. 5 -- A poor display with willow let hosts and former champions Uttar Pradesh struggle against Railways on the penultimate day of their four-day Under-23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy Elite Group D encounter, at the Saheed Vijay Singh Pathak Sports Complex Ground in Greater Noida on Tuesday. After conceding a 120-run first innings lead while chasing Railways' first innings total of Railways 302, Uttar Pradesh were tottering at 64/4 in their second essay too after Railways scored 281 runs in their second innings, stretching their overall lead to 401. Now, Sameer Rizvi-led Uttar Pradesh need 339 more runs to win the match with six wickets in hand when the final day's game begins on Wednesday. It was yet another pathetic show with willow by Uttar Pradesh men as after losing opener Mohd Aashiyan (11), the home team lost two quick wickets in the form of Adarsh Singh (11) and Rituraj Sharma (0) on team's total of 22 before. Though Swastik Chikara and Mohd Amman tried to adorn the innings, stitching together 38 runs for the fourth wicket then, in vain as Chikara was stumped by Vaibhav Pandey off MD Jaiswal only after scoring 19, which came off 50 balls with the help of one boundary and a six. Amaan (20, 44b, 2x4) and Sameer Rizvi (3) were at the crease at the draw of stumps on Tuesday, and given the conditions, it looks almost a difficult task for Uttar Pradesh to win the match. Earlier, resuming at the overnight score of 60/0, Railways batters went on scoring 281 in 85.4 overs even though slow bowlers Kartik Yadav and Shubham Mishra came up with some fine performances. Opener Anchit Yadav (63, 117b, 9x4, 2x6), Aayush Kumar 928, 39b, 1x4, 3x6), skipper Eshaan Goyal (41, 91b, 7x4), Abhishek Kaushal (82, 145b, 10x4, 1x6) and Virat Haiswal (51, 63b, 87x4, 1x6) did bulk of the scoring for the Railways. Prayagraj's Kartik once again showed his class with a 10-wicket haul as after taking 6/79 in the first innings, the left-arm orthodox spinner on Tuesday bagged 6/79, whereas Shubham Mishra finished with 2/86. Abdul Rehman and Vijay Kumar shared two wickets between them, Bad weather continued to haunt both hosts Baroda and former champions Uttar Pradesh even on Tuesday as not a single ball could be bowled on the fourth and final day of their Elite Group A Ranji Trophy encounter, at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara. However, the two teams shared one point each after the two umpires declared the match as abandoned after the lunch break on Tuesday. Uttar Pradesh, who now stand at fifth position in the eight-team event with seven points, will now play their penultimate match on the home turf against lowly Nagaland, at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur from Saturday. Jharkhand lead the table with 15 points, and they are followed by Vidarbha (13 pts), Andhra (9 pts) and Baroda (8 pts)....
