PRAYAGRAJ, Dec. 14 -- Kareli police late Friday night arrested the second accused, Arun Kumar, in a fraud case involving over Rs.1.5 crore. The prime accused, Ghulam Haider alias Pappu, has already been sent to jail. However, six other accused remain absconding, including history-sheeter Akhtar Katra, an aide of slain mafioso Atiq Ahmed, along with Sundari and Chhote Lal. Confirming the arrest, station house officer Ashish Singh said police teams are conducting raids at multiple locations to trace and arrest the absconding accused. According to the complaint filed by Mohd Shoaib Ansari, a resident of Bakshi Bazaar in Kareli, he has been engaged in the land business since 2010. During this period, he came into contact with Ghulam Haider, who showed him 28 bighas of land in Karenda Uparhar and struck a deal at Rs.5.70 lakh per bigha. Haider, along with his associates Arun Kumar Dubey, Anil Kumar Tiwari, Sundari and Chhote Lal, arranged meetings with farmers and facilitated verification of land documents. Trusting them, Ansari paid Rs.1.59 crore through cheques and cash. Of the total amount, Rs.15 lakh was transferred to Haider's bank account, Rs.6 lakh to his wife Shakeela's account, while the remaining amount was paid in cash, the complaint stated. When Ansari later pressed for execution of the sale deed, Haider allegedly began avoiding him. Subsequently, Haider arrived with history-sheeter Akhtar Katra and allegedly threatened Ansari with dire consequences, demanding an additional Rs.8.40 lakh. Fearing for his life and to safeguard the money already paid, Ansari paid the additional amount....
