LUCKNOW, May 30 -- Almost 80 years after it came into existence in 1945, Kanpur's Green Park Stadium will be hosting three one-day internationals (ODIs) of the 'A' teams of India and Australia in September-October. The international Test and ODI centre in the state has never hosted any A team matches before. So far, Green Park has hosted 24 Tests, 15 ODIs and 1 T20 matches, but it has never hosted a match between the A teams of two countries, and this will be the first time when A teams of India and Australia will face off at the venue. According to the announcement by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday, the A teams of both India and Australia will play three ODIs on September 30, October 3 and October 5, at the Green Park Stadium. The Green Park Stadium has nine black-soil pitches, and if all goes well, it will have at least one red-soil turf before the ODIs. "The order for the red soil has already been placed and we are hoping to have it within this week, and it will not take more than 40 days to prepare a red-soil wicket," said an official of Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association on condition of anonymity on Thursday. "We will be required to dig at least one black soil pitch for eight inches to refill it with red soil," he added. The BCCI has also allocated two multi-day (four days) matches to Lucknow's Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium between the A teams of Australia and India from September 16 to 19 and then from September 23 to 26. Kanpur's Green Park Stadium, which hosted its first Test match between India and England in 1952, hosted its last Test match in September 2024 when Rohit Sharma-led India defeated Bangladesh in a dramatic manner when almost three days of play were washed out. On Thursday, BCCI also announced the South Africa men's A team tour of India. Two multi-day matches will be played from October 30 to November 2 and from November 6 to 9 at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Three ODIs will be played between the two sides at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on November 13, 16 and 19, respectively. It also announced the Australia women's tour to India under which the two countries will play three ODIs on September 14, 17 and 20, respectively, in Chennai. Meanwhile, the UPCA officials hope that the revamping of the Green Park Stadium will be done soon as a report is ready in this regard....
