Dehradun, May 16 -- The Sacred Mountain Landscape and Heritage Routes encompassing the Kailash landscape in Pithoragarh district has been added in the tentative list of UNESCO world heritage sites.

A proposal for it along with all the necessary documentations was submitted by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Wednesday. If included in the final list, it would be the second from Uttarakhand after Valley of Flowers.

Before the proposal was submitted, a study of the landscape was done by institutions such as Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Uttarakhand Space Application Centre (USAC), GB Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment and Sustainable Development and others.
